April - October
Arrival in Johannesburg and transfer to the boutique hotel The Peech. Located in the Melrose district, this designer boutique hotel is just a short walk away from the hustle and bustle of the city. The stylish guest rooms are surrounded by a lush garden that invites you to relax from your trip. We will get to know each other and discuss the course of our tour during dinner in one of the neighborhood restaurants.
Day 2 - 3
After a relaxed breakfast, we set off in a north-easterly direction to the Kruger National Park. The park covers 20.000 km² and is divided into 14 ecozones, which differ in their flora and fauna. Although the park is not necessarily one of the largest national parks in Africa, it is probably the best-developed game park on the continent. We spend 2 nights at the Rhino Post Safari Lodge. This lodge is not just a beautiful, and contemporary design built from canvas, wood, and glass – it blends into the natural surroundings with no sculpted gardens or fences. The ambiance is relaxed and friendly. Guests join their guides and management around the dinner table in the sociable atmosphere of the Kruger Camps, while enjoying the level of service and luxury expected from an upmarket game lodge.
We will spend the next days with morning and afternoon game drives including a stop for sundowners at sunset. The biodiversity of the Kruger National Park is legendary, and the drives provide the opportunity to experience the changing landscape, learn about trees and some of their medicinal uses and cultural beliefs, birds, insects, and reptiles as well as a variety of mammals both nocturnal and diurnal.
Day 4 - 6
After breakfast, a vehicle from the lodge takes us to Plains Camp - an intimate walking camp in the heart of South Africa's legendary Kruger National Park and our base camp for the next 3 nights. We are privileged to exclusively explore a 12 000-hectare private concession on foot in ‘Big 5 territory’ that was not previously open to the public. Experience Africa’s wildlife – its sights, sounds, scents, and textures on foot or spend a night under the stars at our Sleep-Out decks and immerse yourself in nature.
Day 7 -8
Today we leave the actual Kruger National Park and drive to the Timbavati Game Reserve, which lies on the western border of the Kruger National Park. In recent years, the fences separating Timbavati from the Kruger National Park were removed to form a pristine wilderness area of approximately four million hectares. We will stay 2 nights at Umlani Bushcamp and enjoy their vast sanctuary of more than 10,000 ha of the unspoilt African wilderness.
Back to the Kruger National Park, we are heading right to the jewel of the northern Kruger - the 24,000-ha private Makuleke concession. Pafuri Camp is situated in the Makuleke Concession and consists of 19 luxury designer tents with en-suite bathrooms and gorgeous views over the Luvuvhu River. We will stay for 1 night and use the time to refresh ourselves in the swimming pool and process the impressions of the last days.
Day 10 - 12
A guide from Pafuri Camp will take us to our walking base camp - a seasonal bush camp near the banks of Luvuvhu in the wildest part of Kruger National Park. Led by experienced field guides, we will have time to walk through an area that is as vast as it is varied and wild. The trail offers us the chance to focus on the little things, but we will also experience the rush of adrenaline when we happen upon members of the Big Five.
Day 13 - 15
Today we will leave South Africa and cross the border into the Tuli Block - a narrow strip of land in the south-eastern corner of Botswana running alongside the great, green, greasy Limpopo River. Tuli Block offers a wonderful natural location to awaken the explorer in you and to enjoy an authentic wilderness experience reminiscent of Africa a century ago. Depending on availability, we will either stay at Tuli Safari Lodge or at Tuli Wilderness Camp. Both lodges offer game drives as well as guided walks to explore this unique area.
We are driving back to Johannesburg in South Africa and spend a last night at the Peech Boutique Hotel. We will close off this eventful African journey with a delicious dinner and a glass of wine.
Transfer from the Peech Hotel to Johannesburg airport depending on your departure time. We hope you will take many unforgettable memories home with you. A part of Africa will travel with you in your heart.
